The beautiful city of San Jose is located at the southern end of Santa Clara County. San Jose was founded by Spanish settlers on November 29, 1777 as El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe, the first town in the Spanish colony of Nueva California, which later became Alta California. Today, San Jose is a burgeoning city of nearly one million people who have helped rank it the third largest city in California, and number ten in the United States.
